Two Years Gone
04:03
|
|||
Couldn't find the words
So nothing was said
Not wanting to believe
This could be the end
Standing on the corner
When it started to rain
We've had our good times
But nothing's here to stay
And no one had to tell you
You could see it on the faces
It was in the air
Walk to the river and wonder why
Some people speak in subtle lies
And high in the September sky
An aeorplane chased another
They're never coming down
They'll stay up in the clouds
Where the air is cool
Worries minds and troubled times
Bitter feelings, teary eyes
Tangled in this web of lies
Where nothing makes it through
It'll never be the same
There's nothing we can do
They say that's just life
One by one they headed on
Empty shelves and all alone
The lights dimmed and turned to stone
So I hit the dusty road
Someday we'll be gone
Can't hang around forever
The trouble's knowing when to go

Little Faces
03:34
|
|||
Mother nature
It's hard to know what's on her mind
There's a place where
We used to spend time
Where the trees grow
There's a shelter and a wall
Wooden boards
They keep the secrets of time
Little worlds
Between the knots and the lines
Slowly spinning
I've never seen so many little faces
And by the river
It's a chorus of life
Splashing water
And the twinkling tide
In the treetops,
A million hiding, signing little faces
In broad daylight
We could fix it today
But something 'aint right
It's not as tough as they say
It wouldn't break ya
To feed a couple hungry
Little faces

Turn Grey
05:12
|
|||
You talk like you know
But you sound like you don’t
And there’s killers you’ll see
And ones that you wont
And if all you believe
Is what you’ve been told
Lost in the memories
And the days of old
Can you see it turn grey
Can you feel it turn grey
You can talk to the river
She listens sometimes
She sings in the summer
In the winter she sighs
On a cold dusty night
She swallows the voices
When she melts in the spring
We pour in the poison
Can you see it turn grey
Can you feel it turn grey
Outside of camp grows
Swamp root medicine
Laughing they ask you
Wont you let us in?
Then voices spoken
By ones unseen
And I’m not the way
You remember me
Can you see it turn grey
Can you feel it turn grey

Doc's Grave

Careful where you throw that match
Hate to set this pretty place ablaze
Those worried feelings shouldn’t last
Follow the voices through the haze
At the bottom of the hill there’s a grave
A fifth of Beam and the jack of spades
They say you rest forever somewhere nearby
But I can’t imagine you sleeping at night
Did you know you’d like forever?
If only through a sound
Could you feel his eyes looking down?
Were you in it for the money?
Or just to make a friend?
What made you laugh as you neared the end, neared the end
You stuck around home for a while
Learned to mend a crooked smile
You traveled near then you traveled far
Are you as crazy as they say you are?
Then you headed for the sunset
With a fire in your eyes
Was it salvation or just a place to hide
A place to hide
You had a way with the seams
The hero of our starstruck dreams
And there’s no way for us to know
Why you had to fly that low

Blackheart's Tale
03:21
|

Two in the air
And two on the ground
The squad car’s wheels spun round and round and round
Put a hand to the window
To wipe away the frost
Scratched his head and said
What will I tell the boss?
Gone with the wind
Gone with the wind
The tumbleweed and highway 21
Keep er riding towards the rising sun
He didn’t notice when they crossed the border
He’s grown old and growing older
Wont forget the day
Can’t forget the day

Taos Lightning

Something about this town
Makes them want to drink
When the sun goes fallin
It gets too cold to think
Something in the way they say that
Things are not the way that, they used to be
Broken glass on the bar room wall
They all came running when they heard the sound
They will find you wherever you are
Before it strikes better put it on down, put it on down
Well they live on the side of the hill
Drinking mountain dew
And stay up there too long and it’ll
Take hold of you
Set out at sunrise and the coyotes circled me
You could hear them laughing
You could hear them laughing
Primal screams at the break of dawn
I took off running when I heard the sound
By the time they get here ill be gone
Before it catches up better put it on down, put it on down
We could spend the afternoon
Looking for shiny things
Mansions and diamonds
Or little sparkly rings
We could get up early
And work our fingers to the bone
Or we could just let loose
Or we could just get loose
Chase your tail as the record spins
Hung my head when I heard the sound
Never new and it’s a crying sin
Before it strikes better let em all in, let em all in

Lonely hills
Rain and Wind
Falling
Down again
Falling
Down again
Let it burn
To watch the flames
Rising
Up again
Rising
Up again
The world turns
It's all a dream
Spinning
Round and round
Spinning
Round and round

Get Away Canyon Stumble
04:47
|
|||
Was that the road bout a mile ago
Or is that it up ahead?
Should have quit this life of shame and strife
And listened to what they said
Gone insane on high dessert plains the trouble and the trial
Now the bottles dry and I’d rather die
Then walk another mile
In a canyon
Where the old trail ends
Circlin buzzards
The only friends
Set out at dawn when the air was cool
And the memories pure and sweet
But the sun rose fast and the hours past
Now I’m dizzy from the heat
Which way to take the path’s never straight
It forks like a viper’s tongue
Does hell await or the pearly gates
When it’s all said and done
In a canyon
That has no name
What would they say?
It’s a shame
Skulls and bones bleached and dry
Resting here forever
In a few days time they could be mine
I guess it’s all the better
Tempt the flood with every drop of blood
But it’s coming anyway
And no matter how and if I make it out
There’s part of me that’s here to stay
Getting dark
Feeling low
Will anyone ever know?
Is that a break in the trees
Is that a winding road
Am I seeing things again?
Sure as hell I found a well they call this place old camp
I took off running down the muddy road
Could hardly feel the pain
There’s JJ he said I just heard the last whistle
From the last train
You’d better run
You’d better fly
I’ve seen that look before
In a boy’s eyes

Lucky 13
03:53
|

Running on fumes through the rain
And running through the night time too
Central sands to the mountains and the plains
To be here with you
I was here in December
Though it feels it's been years
A sunny morning in the kitchen
Holding back tears
All across the ocean
And all across my mind
You're everything I've ever needed
But never could find
We waited for the stars
The night slowly slipped out of view
I'll love you wherever you are
It's all I can do

He came to the door with a rifle
What was on his mind I'll never know
He squinted in the sun and he smiled
Said I'd wondered if you'd show
He lived out in the desert
In a house of red dirt clay
All I need and it's all I got
Just a quiet place to stay
Well we woke up lying in the dust
Hardly aware of the time
To the east the sun came rising
To the west all the mountains climbed
And up on top of the mesa
A path that winds back around
Walk through the canyon at midnight
Fire burning all around
And if you look back as you ride away
See that stone on the hill
Make peace should you ever forget it
But there's no way you ever will
And I hope that you're out there somewhere
Holding the sky in your hands
If there was one thing that never changed
Let it be this enchanted land.
